A Review of Electric Motors with Soft Magnetic Composite Cores for Electric Drives

Electric motors play a crucial role in modern industrial and domestic applications. With the trend of more electric drives, such as vehicles (EVs), requirements for become higher higher, e.g., high power density with good thermal dissipation reliability harsh environments. Many efforts have been made to develop performance motors, application advanced novel electromagnetic materials, control algorithms, mathematical modeling, numerical computation, artificial intelligence based optimization design techniques. Among many magnetic soft composite (SMC) appears very promising developing thanks its unique properties, isotropies, low eddy current loss, prospect low-cost mass production. This paper aims present comprehensive review about SMC various emphasis on those three-dimensional (3D) flux paths. The major techniques developed designing 3D are also summarized, vectorial property characterization system-level multi-discipline robust optimization. Major challenges possible future work this area discussed.
